About this course
Safeguarding children means protecting them from abuse and keeping them safe from harm. It means promoting their health and welfare, helping them to grow up in a safe and supportive environment.
As many as 1 in 3 children sexually abused by an adult never tells anyone, so it’s absolutely crucial that, if you even occasionally work with children, you’re aware of the 4 R’s of child protection – Recognise, Respond, Report, and Record.
This Safeguarding Children course will help you identify and appropriately respond to the warning signs of child abuse, teaching you the importance of speaking up and acting quickly.
Training Objectives
· This training has been crafted for practitioners working with vulnerable people, ensuring that they have the vital knowledge to promote the welfare of those in their care and keep them safe from harm.
· Keeping children and young people safe should be a priority for everyone in the early years sector. In order to do this effectively all staff must understand their role in safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults from harm and should be confident and competent in doing so.
· Safeguarding training in early years education helps ensure the safety and well-being of young children in educational settings.
· To -teach educators how to identify and report signs of abuse or neglect and create a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow.
Level 1: Introduction to Safeguarding
Introduction to safeguarding training typically aims to provide participants with a basic understanding of the concepts and principles of safeguarding and the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and report suspected cases of abuse or neglect.
Learning Outcomes
· Understanding the definitions and types of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, neglect), including breast ironing, FGM, to mention but a few.
· Understanding the signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect in adults and children
· Knowing how to recognize and report suspected abuse or neglect
· Knowing how to respond appropriately to disclosures of abuse or neglect
· Knowing how to protect children under your care from abuse
· Understanding the role of safeguarding in your setting, and how to create a culture of safety in your childcare setting.
Level 2: Advanced Safeguarding in Early Years
Advanced training on safeguarding in the early years builds on the knowledge and skills learned in the introduction to safeguarding training, it has a specific focus on the unique vulnerabilities and risks faced by young children.
Learning Outcomes
· Understanding the developmental stages of children and how they affect their vulnerability to abuse and neglect
· Understanding the specific forms of abuse and neglect that can occur in early years settings, such as emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect
· Understanding the risk factors that may make children in early years settings more vulnerable to abuse and neglect
· Understanding the importance of creating a safe and nurturing environment for young children
· Knowing how to identify and report signs of abuse or neglect in children
· Knowing how to support children who have been abused or neglected
· Understanding the best practices for preventing abuse and neglect in early years settings
Level 3: Designated Safe Guarding Lead Training.
Designated safeguarding lead (DSL) training is typically intended for individuals who have been designated as the primary point of contact for safeguarding concerns within their setting. As the Designated Safeguarding Lead, you are the first point of contact for staff members, families and other people who have access to your setting. so, it’s essential that your knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures is in-depth and up-to-date.
Learning Outcomes:
· Understanding the legal and regulatory framework for safeguarding
· Understanding the role and responsibilities of a DSL, including the requirement to report suspected abuse and neglect to the appropriate authorities
· Knowing how to respond appropriately to disclosures of abuse or neglect
· Understanding the importance of maintaining accurate and confidential records
· Knowing how to provide support and advice to staff, volunteers and other stakeholders on safeguarding issues
· Understanding the best practices for preventing abuse and neglect in your school/ childcare setting.
· Knowing how to support and manage staff and volunteers who may have been accused of abuse or neglect
· Know the laws, policies and guidance documents that contribute towards best safeguarding and child protection practice.
